Between the Elbphilharmonie and Construction Sites
The Institute of Building Materials Research offered its students an array of interesting excursion once again during this year’s Excursion Week, which took place in June. They went to the north of Germany, where the prospective civil engineers got to take a look at the renovation work on the old Elbe tunnel in Hamburg. Of course, while in the famous port city, a visit to the famous Elbphilharmonie was an absolute must!
Later, the students were able to watch the construction of a "pipe within a pipe" on a pipeline construction site owned by Hamburg Wasser.
These exciting activities were followed by a visit to see the new construction of a fifth lock chamber at Brunsbüttel lock the next day. This new chamber is required to be able to renovate the existing plant without restricting shipping traffic.
A factory tour of BASF in Oldenburg with product presentations met with just as much interest as a visit to a construction site in Münster, which finished off the excursions.
We would like to thank all the companies and institutions for their very kind support and willingness to provide these future engineers with fascinating insights into their practical work.
